Contrary to their rather sinister western reputation, in China bats are associated with good
fortune. Bats and peaches are often combined to form an auspicious design called “Enjoying
both Happiness and Longevity”. The Chinese word for bat, fu, sounds identical to the word
for good luck and happiness. Also due to pronunciation, peaches are associated with a long
life.
This kite has a finely painted design on silk, and a bamboo frame. It is a stable flier in force 2
to force 4 winds.
